TVA to charge data centers new rate, offset burden for other customers
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has approved a new rate structure for data centers in its service area, including Memphis, to ensure residential customers are not burdened by increased electricity demand. The new rates include a 10% increase for existing data centers and a Capacity Commitment Charge for new loads over 5MW. This comes as the Memphis City Council has introduced a moratorium on data center development to study their environmental and utility impacts.
