Gipson to Chair SpaceXAI Southaven Power Plant Hearing
Mississippi Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Andy Gipson will chair a Nov. 9 evidentiary hearing on MZX Tech’s gas-fired power plant in Southaven, which supplies electricity to SpaceXAI’s Colossus II data center cluster. Residents and environmental groups have challenged the plant over air quality, noise and truck traffic after the MDEQ Permit Board approved its construction permit.
Mississippi Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Andy Gipson is scheduled to chair a Nov. 9 evidentiary hearing by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality Permit Board concerning MZX Tech’s gas-fired power plant in Southaven. The plant supplies electricity to SpaceXAI’s Colossus II data center cluster, and the hearing will allow the board to receive testimony and evidence after earlier public comment proceedings.
The Permit Board approved the plant’s construction permit in March, but residents and environmental groups continue to raise concerns about air quality, noise and truck traffic. The hearing comes as DeSoto County supervisors separately press SpaceXAI to increase buyout offers to nearby homeowners, some of whom say the offers are too low.
