Inside a Charlotte-area manufacturer’s $1B expansion to feed AI data center boom

Prysmian is undertaking a $1 billion expansion of its fiber-optic production capacity in Claremont, Catawba County, North Carolina, driven by the increasing demand from the AI data center industry. This project will add nearly 1 million square feet of manufacturing space and create 385 new jobs, reinforcing the Charlotte region's reputation as a fiber capital. The expansion involves new glass and cable production facilities, as well as an R&D team, and is expected to be fully operational by 2030.
