WNY weighs AI data center expansion, residents raise environmental concerns
Residents in North Tonawanda, New York, are raising environmental and noise concerns about an existing crypto mining plant, World Generation X, which is considering transitioning to an AI data center. The city has extended a one-year moratorium on such facilities. Additionally, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has enacted a statewide moratorium on new large-scale AI data center developments to research their impacts and develop regulations.
