BlackRock takes majority ownership of Meta’s massive El Paso data center. Here’s what to know.

BlackRock has acquired majority ownership (80%) of Meta's massive data center project in El Paso through a joint venture, with Meta retaining 20% and renting the facility. The City of El Paso's attorney's office has stated that this transaction does not appear to breach Meta's existing tax break agreement. Meanwhile, the Public Utility Commission of Texas is currently reviewing a controversial proposal for El Paso Electric to build a dedicated power plant for the data center, with PUC staffers recommending denial.
