Chesapeake moves to restrict data center development, Virginia Beach presses pause

Chesapeake City Council closed a zoning loophole and enacted an eight-month moratorium on data center applications to craft new regulations, following significant public opposition regarding resource consumption and environmental impact. Virginia Beach City Council also voted unanimously for a 12-month temporary ban on new data center permits to address zoning definitions and avoid undesirable developments.
