Louisville Urban League backs bill to make data centers pay energy costs

Community advocates in Louisville, Kentucky are urging support for a state bill (HB 593) that would require data centers to cover the cost of their electricity use and infrastructure, to prevent residents from facing higher utility bills as data centers expand in the state. The Louisville Urban League CEO raised concerns that data centers' large electricity demands could impact the power grid and increase costs for households, especially in economically disadvantaged communities where data centers are often located.
