The Cle Elum City Council unanimously passed an emergency six-month moratorium on new data centers following a developer's proposal for a 20-megawatt facility. Blue Fern Development's project may still proceed due to a pre-existing development agreement, as the city needs to determine if it qualifies under already permitted commercial or industrial uses. The council aims to use this pause to study and draft new regulations addressing the impact of large computing facilities on local resources and infrastructure.
