Pittsburgh-area hyperscale data center gets green light
A controversial data center has won approval from the Springdale borough council in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The council voted 5-2 to grant a conditional use permit to Allegheny DC Property Company to build a 565,000-square-foot data center at the site of the former Cheswick Generating Station. The planned data center could demand as much power as more than 140,000 homes, and faced opposition from over a dozen residents who urged the council to vote against it during a public comment period.
