Niagara County planners support local data centers moratoriums
The Niagara County Planning Board has officially supported proposed data center moratoriums in the towns of Lockport and Cambria. These towns are developing new regulations for such facilities, with the moratoriums lasting 18 and nine months, respectively. A separate moratorium in North Tonawanda has already put a proposed Digipower data center conversion on hold.
The Niagara County Planning Board has formally endorsed proposed moratoriums on new data centers in the towns of Lockport and Cambria. Both municipalities are actively working to establish new regulations for data center operations.
Lockport's proposed moratorium is set for 18 months, while Cambria's will last nine months. Neither town has yet received any specific applications for new data center developments. Meanwhile, a separate moratorium enacted by the City of North Tonawanda has already paused a planned data center conversion project by Digipower in that city.
