Georgetown extends data center moratorium to June 2027, begins drafting citywide hyperscale ban
Georgetown City Council extended the city's data center moratorium through June 30, 2027. The city also began drafting legislation to ban hyperscale data centers citywide, and officials said no developer applications are currently pending.
Georgetown City Council voted to extend the city's data center moratorium through June 30, 2027. The action follows an earlier extension that moved the moratorium from September to the end of December and came as local communities consider restrictions on future data center development.
The city has also begun drafting legislation that would prohibit hyperscale data centers throughout Georgetown. The Planning and Zoning office said no developers currently have applications on file, while Councilmember Karen Tingle Sames said the city lacks the resources to host a data center.
