Roanoke Mayor Joe Cobb on Monday accused two of his City Council colleagues of violating the council's ethics code. The allegations stem from statements made by the council members concerning a land sale intended for a potential data center project.
The proposed development, known as the Wood Haven Technology Park, is situated near Roanoke's city limits, at the junction of Interstates 81 and 581 in the Roanoke Valley. Mayor Cobb criticized his colleagues, stating they permitted "their activism to override their governance responsibilities" in their remarks on the project.
The accusations come amidst public opposition, evidenced by a data center protest held outside Roanoke City Hall on the same day. Individuals, including Roanoke City Council candidate Danny Clawson, participated in the demonstration, carrying signs related to the data center development.
