
Google launches water conservation commitments for data centers in Nebraska, Iowa

Google announced a significant expansion of its data center operations in Nebraska and Iowa, alongside new commitments to water conservation. At an event in Papillion, Nebraska, Google officials, including Dan Harbeke, head of public policy, and Allie Hopkins, head of data centers for Iowa and Nebraska, detailed a $1.2 billion investment in Nebraska. This investment will expand Google's existing data center in Papillion and fund the construction of a new facility in northeast Lincoln.
The announcement was attended by several elected officials, including Papillion Mayor David Black, Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, and U.S. Representative Mike Flood. Separately, Google also announced a $1 billion investment in its Google Council Bluffs Data Center in Iowa. These investments are part of broader efforts to manage the heat generated by data center operations and address environmental concerns.
