Gregg Township temporarily suspends new data center development
Gregg Township supervisors in Union County, Pennsylvania, have unanimously approved a 180-day temporary suspension on new data center development. This pause is intended to allow for a comprehensive review and amendment of the township's zoning ordinance. The suspension does not affect an ongoing data center project by PNK Group, which is currently seeking a curative amendment for its development.
Gregg Township supervisors in Union County, Pennsylvania, unanimously enacted a 180-day moratorium on new data center development. The resolution, approved by Supervisors David Masser, Michael Keiser, and Arthur Masser, aims to provide time for a comprehensive review and amendment of the township's zoning ordinance regarding data centers. Township Secretary Jodi Willow stated the measure "just puts a stop to any new plans coming in until the whole curative amendment is taken care of."
This temporary suspension, however, does not impact the ongoing development by PNK Group, a New York City-based company. PNK Group is currently seeking a curative amendment and conditional use approval to allow for the construction of a 252,000-square-foot data center within an existing building at 198 Enterprise Blvd. in Allenwood, located in the Great Stream Commons commercial manufacturing zoning district. Data centers are not explicitly listed in the township's current ordinances, necessitating these approvals for the project to proceed.
The township plans to gather stakeholder input during the suspension period to ensure new regulations comply with Pennsylvania law. A second public hearing for PNK Group's application is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Warrior Run Fire Department Social Hall. Chairman David Masser has warned that individuals disrupting the meeting will be removed by sheriff deputies.
