Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a new $6 billion investment to construct a third data center campus in Shreveport, Louisiana, raising its total planned regional investment to $18 billion. The new campus will be situated at Resilient Technology Park in west Shreveport. Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux welcomed the development, highlighting the city's water resources and its ability to support the project.
The construction of the Shreveport campus had faced delays due to litigation initiated by three plaintiffs with support from the Sierra Club Delta Chapter, a case still pending in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Despite the ongoing legal challenge, Amazon officials, though not commenting directly on the litigation, are reportedly comfortable proceeding with the announcement, according to local officials.
The project is projected to generate 210 new direct jobs and 499 indirect jobs. STACK Infrastructure is identified as the project developer, anticipating up to 2,250 construction jobs. Amazon plans to invest up to $400 million in public water infrastructure to ensure sufficient capacity for its three campuses and existing customers, funding all required water and wastewater improvements. Additionally, Amazon is collaborating with Southwestern Electric Power Company to fully finance the necessary energy infrastructure and grid upgrades.
