Public comment period open on Hermantown data center urban area-wide review

The City of Hermantown has announced the opening of a public comment period for a scoping document concerning Google's proposed data center. This document is linked to an Alternative Urban Area-wide Review (AUAR), a state-authorized process used to evaluate the environmental impact of different development scenarios for a site before construction begins. The public comment period for the scoping document will remain open until April 30, with the document accessible on the City of Hermantown's website. Following the announcement of Google's involvement, the Duluth Building Construction Trades Council, a local construction union, expressed strong interest in participating in the project, with union president Jack Carlson highlighting the significant opportunity the data center would present for their members.
