Rural Hall residents recently attended a community meeting to review an area plan outlining the town's future growth, housing, and infrastructure. This meeting occurred after several months of increased attention on local development, notably the rejection of a data center's zoning request by county commissioners in July. Although data centers were not the primary focus of this particular meeting, discussions about them prompted some residents to become more engaged in local government processes.
Project planner Dan Roberts emphasized that the goal of the plan is to prepare for anticipated county growth in a deliberate manner that includes and informs current residents. The plan encompasses over 4,600 parcels in and around Rural Hall, with residents providing input on proposed changes and expressing what aspects of the town they wish to preserve.
Community member Scott Boak, who became more active in government due to the data center discussions, expressed hope that current participation would prevent future development problems. Officials plan to host three additional community meetings through January, with the next one scheduled for November 5th in Rural Hall.
