The Door County Resource Planning Committee is scheduled to discuss a potential resolution for a 12-month moratorium on data center and battery energy storage system development in unincorporated areas. The Door County Resource Planning Committee (RPC) is set to discuss a resolution proposing a 12-month moratorium on the development of data centers and battery energy storage systems in the unincorporated areas of Door County, Wisconsin. The discussion, scheduled for Thursday, May 7, at the Door County Government Center in Sturgeon Bay, follows increasing public attention on data center developments across the state.
Communities statewide are expressing concerns about land use, energy demand, water consumption, and long-term infrastructure costs associated with large-scale facilities supporting artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The proposed moratorium aims to provide the county time to consider revisions to its zoning ordinances to address such developments. If the RPC recommends the resolution, it would then advance to the County Board of Supervisors for final consideration.
