Public hearings on expanding Salem Twp. data center overlay set for Tuesday
Salem Township supervisors will hold hearings on proposed zoning-map amendments that would expand the township's Special Data Center Overlay District by more than 4,600 acres, including land for the proposed Salem 3 and Salem 4 campuses. The hearings will be followed by a supervisors' meeting where the ordinances could be considered for a vote.
Salem Township supervisors are scheduled to hear testimony on two ordinances expanding the township's Special Data Center Overlay District. One proposal would increase the district from about 2,900 acres to approximately 7,366 acres to accommodate the Salem 3 project, while a second would add 185 acres for the Salem 4 campus. The township planning commission has recommended approval of both measures.
The Salem 3 project is associated with the 4-3 Glennbrook Group, which has negotiated options on roughly 4,466 acres from about 200 landowners. The Salem 4 plan, submitted by 109 Moores LLC, depicts 10 data center buildings, stormwater facilities and a customer-owned substation. The broader area also includes planned campuses from QTS and Amazon, with QTS revising its plans to 12 buildings and Amazon increasing its proposed campus from 15 to 20 data centers.
