The lawsuit, initially filed by Joyce and Jason White and Helen Hurley against the city of Independence, Missouri, and other parties, alleges that the recall petition is legally insufficient.
The plaintiffs claim that the petition fails to identify specific acts or causes for Perkins' removal and that the recall procedure outlined in the City of Independence Charter is unconstitutional. Despite the Jackson County Election Board verifying the required number of signatures, the lawsuit contests the sufficiency and timeliness of the petition.
