Maysville Planning Commission to meet June 1 on data center
The Maysville Planning Commission is scheduled to meet to discuss a new data center project by Northern Data, following a previous session that was overcrowded by opposing residents. The Maysville City Council had already approved a conditional use permit for the data center to be built in the town's industrial park.
The Maysville Planning Commission is set to convene on June 1 at the Maysville Fire Department to address issues surrounding a new data center project. This meeting was necessitated after a prior gathering at city hall was overwhelmed by residents concerned about the development, forcing a reschedule. Planning commission chairman Ken Outcalt has included the data center topic on the agenda to provide information and answer community questions.
In January 2025, the Maysville City Council granted a conditional use permit, allowing the data center to be located within the town's industrial park. The developer, Northern Data Group, has maintained a smaller crypto mining data center in the same park since 2019. In 2022, the company publicly announced plans for a larger data center on an adjacent 63 acres in Maysville, a project that includes a new Georgia Power substation to meet its electricity demands. Northern Data describes this facility as a "purpose-built AI data center" designed with sustainability and minimal water consumption in mind.
