Local data centers focus of local public meeting
A public meeting will be held in Roswell, New Mexico, to discuss data center concerns and potential projects in Roswell and Chaves County. This follows the Chaves County Commissioners' approval of a special-use permit for Zenith Volts Corporation to construct a 1,265 MW solar facility and data center near Lake Arthur.
The Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corporation (RCCEDC) is hosting a public meeting in Roswell, New Mexico, to address concerns and potential projects related to data centers in the area. The meeting, scheduled for Monday at the Elks Lodge #969, will provide information on data center developments and their local impact.
This initiative follows a significant decision made in August 2025 by the Chaves County Commissioners. During that meeting, the commissioners approved a special-use permit for Zenith Volts Corporation, a Cheyenne, Wyoming-based company, to develop a large-scale power production site near Lake Arthur, approximately 20 miles south of Roswell. The proposed $6 billion project includes a 1,265-megawatt utility-scale solar facility to power a 300-acre data center and a 250-acre battery energy storage system across 8,500 acres of grazing land.
The RCCEDC, a non-profit dedicated to economic development in Chaves County, aims to attract new businesses and enhance the local economy, with data centers being a focus area given existing power infrastructure and interest from developers.
