Amazon, currently constructing a data center in Richmond County, N.C., has disclosed new details regarding its water reduction strategies across its data center operations. The company reported that its 2025 water data indicates its data centers are seven times more water-efficient than the industry average, primarily utilizing air cooling for most of the year and water only on the hottest days.

Amazon is also collaborating with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation in North Carolina to restore and protect 20,000 acres of longleaf pine forests in the Pee Dee River basin. This initiative is expected to facilitate more rainwater filtering into the ground and rivers, replenishing approximately 1.6 billion liters of water annually. The company states it is 75% toward its 2030 water positive goal, aiming to return more than a gallon of water for every gallon used in the communities where it operates, having returned three gallons for every four used in 2025.
