Digital Realty is proposing a $20 million community fund that would provide each De Soto household with $1,000 annually for 10 years if the company builds its planned data center. The project still needs City Council approval for requested tax incentives and faces resident concerns about water use, contamination and health impacts, as well as a petition effort seeking a data center ban.

Digital Realty has proposed a $20 million fund that would provide annual $1,000 credits to every De Soto household for up to 10 years. The credits could be used for property taxes and utilities, and the company is working with Mayor, city administrator and city attorney representatives to determine how the program would be administered.

The proposed Project Jayhawk data center would be built in Astra Enterprise Park on the former Sunflower Ammunition Plant grounds. Digital Realty is seeking up to $826.6 million in tax-increment financing for the roughly $7.5 billion development, with a public hearing and City Council review scheduled for Nov. 19. City planners have approved the site plans, but residents continue to raise concerns about water consumption, contamination and health effects, while an opposition group gathers signatures for a ban on data centers in De Soto.
