The Twin Township Zoning Commission in Darke County approved a proposed regulatory framework for data centers covering facility size, noise, water use and electrical power requirements. The Twin Township Zoning Commission approved a nine-page proposed regulatory framework for potential data centers in Darke County. The framework addresses facility size, operating capacity, noise, water consumption and electrical power supply, and is intended to establish local oversight before any facilities are developed.

More than 50 residents attended the meeting, where Curt Lambert, Twin Township’s zoning inspector, answered questions. Resident Tracy Lauric raised concerns about possible effects on property values, health and local decision-making, while the commission said the nearby Village of Arcanum would need to conduct its own separate regulatory process.

The proposal moves to the Twin Township Trustees, who are scheduled to vote at their upcoming Monday meeting. If approved, a 30-day waiting period would have to pass before the township could consider a moratorium on data center development.
