Seymour, Missouri, enacts one-year data center moratorium
The Seymour Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a one-year moratorium on data center applications and expansions. This decision allows the city to review its current zoning ordinances, which currently permit data centers in light industrial zones, despite no prospective developers having contacted the city.
The Seymour Board of Aldermen has unanimously approved a one-year moratorium on the establishment or expansion of data centers within city limits. The four aldermen voted 4-0 to pass a two-page resolution last Thursday night. City Administrator Hillary Elliott stated that the city has not been contacted by any prospective data center developers, but current I-1 light industrial zoning laws would permit such facilities.
The moratorium, according to Elliott, will protect the city and provide a full year to review and potentially revise existing ordinances. The move comes in response to data center developments occurring on the north side of Webster County.
