Hildebran, N.C. residents are actively opposing a proposed data center by Digi Power X in Cline Industrial Park due to concerns about noise and quality of life. The Hildebran Town Council has responded by enacting ordinances to limit potential noise from the project.
Dozens of residents in Hildebran, North Carolina, have signed a petition against a proposed data center development by Digi Power X in Cline Industrial Park. The company purchased two tracts of land adjacent to a Duke Energy substation, stating on Facebook their intent to combine energy assets with data center solutions to meet AI compute demand.
Local residents, including Libby Lowman whose family operates a grocery store across from the site, voiced concerns about potential noise levels and the overall impact on their quality of life. They questioned the benefits the data center would bring to Hildebran citizens.
Hildebran Mayor Wendell Hildebrand acknowledged the widespread opposition, including from the town council members. While he expressed uncertainty about the town's ability to halt the project entirely, he confirmed that the town council has already taken action. They have passed ordinances specifically designed to limit noise from the data center, aiming to mitigate its effects on residents' quality of life.
