Larimer County Drafts Strict Data Center Policy
Larimer County released a draft policy regulating data center construction in the unincorporated county and is seeking public feedback. The proposal would ban hyperscale data centers and evaporative cooling, following a county moratorium that was extended through the end of the year.
Larimer County, Colorado, has released a draft policy governing data center construction in unincorporated areas and is soliciting public feedback. The proposal would prohibit hyperscale facilities, which consume substantial amounts of electricity, and evaporative cooling systems, which can require significant water use.
The Larimer County Commissioners approved a data center moratorium in January and extended it in June through the end of the year. County staff said the pause was necessary because the county lacked a comprehensive policy for regulating the facilities.
