Despite thunder and lightning, a group of residents gathered outside Birmingham City Hall to protest proposed data centers. The protest targeted a proposed AI data center in Birmingham, with demonstrators demanding stronger oversight for the project.
AJ Robinson reported live from City Hall, noting the inclement weather and the presence of many protestors. Residents from Bessemer, Birmingham, Hoover, Homewood, and surrounding counties, alongside local organizations, demonstrated against proposed data centers on Lakeshore Parkway and in Bessemer.
Turner Henson from Birmingham Indivisible and Madeline Green, a resident from Hoover, were present to voice their concerns. The protest aims to send a clear message to the City Council and the wider city about the community's opposition and desire for greater scrutiny of these developments.
