Habersham County officials have updated their proposed Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), a key regulatory document intended to guide future development within the county. Ashlyn Brady, Public Information Officer for the Habersham County Government, announced that citizens are encouraged to review the revised document and provide feedback at a public town hall meeting scheduled for April 13.
The UDO has seen several adjustments based on public input, including the removal of a derelict vehicle ordinance. A significant point of discussion has been the inclusion of data centers, with the proposed ordinance introducing measures to restrict such developments. Currently, all data center proposals would necessitate a Special Use Permit, requiring approval from both the Planning Commission and the Board of Commissioners. The county is also considering additional requirements and safeguards for data center projects.
County leaders stress the importance of community involvement, inviting residents to attend the town hall to voice concerns, ask questions, and offer input before the Board of Commissioners takes a final vote on the ordinance. The county emphasizes its commitment to transparency and community engagement in shaping future development.
