Governor Janet Mills' Data Center Advisory Council convened its first virtual meeting on Wednesday, June 3, to begin addressing large-scale data center development opportunities and associated risks within Maine. The council's formation stems from an Executive Order issued by Governor Mills in April, following her veto of a proposed statewide moratorium on data center development. Had it passed, the moratorium would have been the first of its kind nationally.

The committee is charged with providing strategic input and evaluating policy tools. They face a tight deadline, with findings required to be submitted to the Governor's office by January 29, 2027. The public was invited to register and attend the inaugural meeting, which ran from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
