Asia is emerging as a major data center construction center as investment flows into the region and demand from artificial intelligence companies grows. Turner & Townsend's index ranked Tokyo the world's most expensive market for data center construction at US$18.28 per watt, followed by Osaka, while Singapore ranked fourth.
The report compared 62 global markets and found Shanghai, Mumbai and Ho Chi Minh City among the least expensive. Outside Asia, Zurich ranked second and Silicon Valley fifth at US$15.01 per watt; Turner & Townsend said North America hosts about half of the world's data centers and Europe about one-quarter.
