New AI data center coming to Glencoe. Here's what residents and city leaders are saying.
Revolve Labs is building an artificial intelligence data center in Glencoe after months of city review and approval. Some residents are concerned about higher water and electricity bills, noise and the lack of a public vote, while city officials say safeguards include a 200,000-gallon-per-day water limit, noise restrictions and the ability to shut off service if rules are violated.
Revolve Labs is constructing an artificial intelligence data center in Glencoe, west of the Twin Cities. The project underwent about 18 months of review by city officials and was approved without tax subsidies. City Administrator Mark Lehman said officials examined whether local infrastructure could support the facility and held discussions in open meetings.
Residents have raised concerns about potential increases in water and electricity bills, noise and the way the project was approved without a public vote. Mayor Mark Heusser and other city leaders describe the facility as a smaller-scale development that could create dozens of jobs and support economic growth. The city says protections include a 200,000-gallon daily water-use limit, noise restrictions and authority to cut off water service if the company violates the rules. The data center is expected to begin operating by early summer.
