Bastrop County residents urge transparency on proposed data center, gas plant project
Cedar Creek residents are opposing a proposed data center campus and on-site natural gas power plant near thousands of homes, citing concerns about transparency, air emissions and water use. Bastrop County commissioners are expected to vote on a resolution asking the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to hold a public meeting about the project.
Residents in Cedar Creek are pressing Bastrop County officials for more information about a proposed data center campus and natural gas power plant planned on a large property near residential areas. The project, described in a Pacific fact sheet, would include two data center buildings and develop about 600 acres of a 2,842-acre site. Residents have raised concerns about air emissions, water consumption and the potential impact on their land and community.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has issued a project license for one data center building, but residents say few details have been made public. The Bastrop County Commissioners Court is expected to vote on a resolution requesting that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality hold a public meeting concerning the project's standard permit registration. County officials, Pacific Energy and Anthropic had not responded to requests for comment before publication.
