Hundreds of Colorado Springs residents packed a public meeting to express strong opposition and ask questions regarding "Project Taurus," a proposed AI data center development. The project aims to convert a former computer chip manufacturing site into an AI data center, drawing so many attendees that the meeting was split into two sessions, with many still turned away.
Residents voiced numerous concerns about the proposed data center, including its impact on local electricity bills, the amount of water it will consume, potential noise and pollution, and effects on property values. Many questioned why the data center must be located within a residential area.
Project representatives explained that the specific location is crucial due to the existing building, power infrastructure, and network capabilities, which collectively provide the necessary resources for such an operation in the region. However, attendees reported feeling unsatisfied with the answers provided. A second meeting is currently being scheduled within the next two to three weeks.
