Barren County Land Use Committee meets Tuesday night
Barren County officials are preparing the county’s first comprehensive zoning ordinance, including proposed rules for large data centers and other high-intensity technological infrastructure. The ordinance would require data centers to locate as conditional uses in Heavy Industrial districts and undergo review by the Board of Adjustment and planning commission, with a public hearing scheduled for Oct. 19.
The Barren County Land Use Committee will meet in Glasgow before an Oct. 19 public hearing on the county’s first comprehensive zoning ordinance. The draft, developed at the request of the Barren County Fiscal Court, would establish 10 zoning districts and regulate development in unincorporated areas of the county.
The proposal includes a section covering high-intensity technological infrastructure, including large data centers and solar farms. Such projects would be allowed only as conditional uses in Heavy Industrial districts and would require review by the Board of Adjustment and planning commission. The county’s push for comprehensive zoning followed a proposed data center in Cave City, part of whose site lies in unincorporated Barren County. Final adoption would require fiscal court approval and passage on two readings.
