Louisville committee advances temporary pause on data center proposals

The Louisville Metro Council's planning and zoning committee has advanced a temporary moratorium on data center proposals, with a 7-1 vote. This pause is intended to allow the city to revise its rules and regulations concerning data centers, particularly focusing on setbacks, utility infrastructure, and environmental impacts.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg expressed his approval for the moratorium in a news conference, stating the importance of approving proposed data center regulations after the ongoing public hearing process. Councilmember Shameka Parrish-Wright, a mayoral candidate, has been a vocal advocate for the moratorium and commented on the mayor's sudden support after weeks of the ordinance being tabled.
However, not all council members are in favor. Metro council member Stuart Benson argued against the pause, highlighting the potential economic cost to Louisville and the significant revenue data centers could bring to institutions like the school system and local fire departments.
