A major redevelopment is proposed for Site C of the former Remington Arms complex in Ilion, New York, with Turin Hoefler Avenue LLC seeking to transform the 7.837-acre brownfield parcel into a 250,000-square-foot AI data center. The company submitted a revised application to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Brownfield Cleanup Program in January, detailing plans for cleanup and construction.
The site, located at 14 Hoefler Ave. in the Village of Ilion and Town of German Flatts, is heavily contaminated with heavy metals like arsenic, lead, and copper from its industrial past. The proposed project aims to use green and sustainable remediation practices and will be a fossil-fuel-free, 100% electric facility, supported by regional clean energy resources.
The redevelopment aligns with the Village of Ilion’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, which designates the former Remington Arms facility for economic development. Turin Hoefler Avenue LLC has also requested a waiver of the $50,000 application fee, citing the site's location in a Disadvantaged Area and the significant community benefits, including job creation that is projected to exceed the 274 jobs lost in 2024 at Remington. The project schedule outlines state review and public comment periods throughout 2026 and 2027.
