Delhi Township drops LEAP membership after data center bombshell
Delhi Township officials ended the township's membership in the Lansing Economic Area Partnership after learning that LEAP and Lighthouse Sustainability were exploring a potential $10 billion data center on a 423-acre site. The Township Board of Trustees has called a special meeting to consider a resolution opposing data center development, while a 12-month moratorium remains in effect until April.
Delhi Township has withdrawn from the Lansing Economic Area Partnership after officials said they were caught off guard by LEAP's announcement that it was working with Lighthouse Sustainability to explore a large data center near College Road. Township Manager Tracy Miller said the decision was intended to prioritize residents and local interests.
The Delhi Township Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting to consider formally opposing any data center development in the township and urging LEAP and Lighthouse to end their efforts. The proposal could represent a $10 billion investment and include a 700-megawatt facility with battery storage, closed-loop cooling, open space and community benefits. Lighthouse cofounder Tom Dorris said the project would generate approximately $53 million in annual revenue, while the partnership plans a six-month community engagement campaign before the township's existing 12-month moratorium expires in April.
