Data Center Community Meeting is Tonight at San Jose City Hall
San Jose is holding a community meeting on data center expansion and proposed uniform standards for large energy projects ahead of Planning Commission and City Council hearings. Separately, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is questioning whether Meta’s data center buildout should qualify for the federal research tax credit.
The City of San Jose is hosting a public community meeting at City Hall on data center expansion and large energy project uniform standards. The session is expected to be the final large-format meeting before the Planning Commission and City Council hold formal hearings, giving residents an opportunity to comment on the city’s data center policies.
In related federal news, Reps. Jimmy Panetta, Greg Steube, Mike Thompson and Suzan DelBene sent Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent a bipartisan letter challenging Meta’s apparent effort to claim the federal research tax credit for data center construction and equipment. The lawmakers argued that deploying commercially available servers, electrical infrastructure, cooling systems and networking equipment does not qualify as research merely because it occurs at unprecedented scale.
