The Box Elder County Commission has approved the Stratos Hyperscale Data Center, a proposed 40,000-acre development in Utah's Hansel Valley. The project's immense scale is highlighted by comparisons, such as being larger than Bryce Canyon National Park and occupying an area nearly two-thirds the size of Salt Lake City.
The data center, if fully expanded, is projected to consume nine gigawatts of power, a figure comparable to the electricity usage of New York City. Despite the commission's approval, protesters have voiced significant concerns regarding the project's potential environmental impact and a perceived lack of transparency in the development process.
