Amazon Defends AI Data Center Expansion, Pledges More Than $1 Billion in Community Investments
Amazon is defending its plans to expand AI data center infrastructure amid opposition from communities, including in Arkansas. The company says it will invest more than $1 billion in communities, stop using nondisclosure agreements with government officials, and hold open houses to address concerns about water use and electricity rates.
Amazon released a memo defending its efforts to build AI data centers as communities across the country, including in Arkansas, push back against rapid data center growth. The company addressed concerns about the facilities' water consumption and potential effects on energy rates while pledging more than $1 billion in new community investments.
Amazon also said it has stopped using nondisclosure agreements with government officials for data center projects. Instead, it plans to engage communities more directly through open houses and information-sharing about proposed developments.
