Barron County sets special meeting on AI data centers
The Barron County Board of Supervisors is holding a special meeting to discuss AI data centers and a possible 9-month moratorium. This follows two townships within Barron County and a neighboring county already enacting or petitioning for similar moratoriums. The meeting is open to the public for discussion and potential action.
The Barron County Board of Supervisors is set to convene a special meeting as a Committee of the Whole to discuss AI data centers and potential action on a moratorium. The meeting, scheduled for Monday, August 31, at 1 p.m. at the Barron County Government Center's Veterans Memorial Auditorium, will feature presentations by Wisconsin Counties Association President and CEO Mark O'Connell and Attolles Law, S.C. Attorney Rebecca Roeker.
This discussion comes after Doyle Township in Barron County and Polk County have already enacted 12-month moratoriums on data centers. Additionally, Lakeland and Maple Plain townships have approved resolutions petitioning Barron County Zoning to implement a moratorium. While the Barron County Board has not yet acted on the matter, action to adopt, modify, or reject a 9-month moratorium ordinance is anticipated during the meeting.
