A new 720-square-foot Duos Edge AI data center has commenced operations in Waco, McLennan County, Texas, located at the Region 12 Education Service Center. This facility is designed to serve 77 school districts and 9 charter schools across Central Texas, aiming to provide advanced technology, secure data storage, and faster internet speeds to urban and rural educational and healthcare organizations.

A key distinguishing feature highlighted by Duos Edge Vice President of Technology, Bill Radford, is the facility's minimal environmental footprint. Unlike larger data centers, Duos Edge AI reportedly consumes zero water, with no water meter connected to the property, and draws power comparable to a standard local business, alleviating concerns about increased utility costs for residents.

Kenny Berry, Executive Director of Region 12, emphasized the benefits of "close connection and increased speed and connectivity" for AI-reliant tools. Waco ISD is considering utilizing the center, citing potential advantages like "Zero-Lag Learning Solutions," "Enhanced Local Data Security" compliant with privacy regulations (FERPA, COPPA, CIPA), and "Cost-Effective Continuity" by avoiding on-campus data center expansion. Duos Edge indicated potential for expansion with additional data centers if this initial facility garners significant interest.
