Abbott says Google, Rowan, CleanSpark will meet Texas data center rules
Governor Greg Abbott announced new statewide standards for data centers in Texas, focusing on grid reliability, water use, and community impact. Google, Rowan, and CleanSpark have committed to comply with these guidelines, which aim to prevent costs being passed to Texas families. The Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) and Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) will audit projects for compliance.
Governor Greg Abbott announced that Google, Rowan, and CleanSpark will comply with the statewide standards he established for data centers in Texas. These guidelines, designed to protect the electric grid, conserve water, respect communities, and prevent costs from being passed to Texas families, are now being universally implemented across the state. Governor Abbott previously directed the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to examine and audit data center projects based on these criteria, ensuring grid stability and reliability. Any data center company that fails to comply with ERCOT’s audit process will face denial of approval.
The Governor stated that these directives are successfully prompting data centers across the state to either announce full compliance or end their projects, reinforcing the guardrails protecting communities.
