Gov: Pottawatomie County Planning Commission, County Planners

The Pottawatomie County Planning Commission is in the process of developing new policies to regulate data center construction, a topic that drew significant public interest to their recent regular meeting. County planners have been working for several months to draft these regulations, aiming to address various concerns before data center projects begin to emerge in the area.

Bridget Snow, a county official, noted that the county decided to "get on top of that and come up with regulations before we started seeing things come in." The county has already received numerous emails reflecting strong public emotions, both in favor and against data center development. Pottawatomie resident Ellen Wilson attended the meeting, expressing her strong opposition, stating, "I don't want a data center here. There's just too much, too many unanswered questions." She believes many residents share her sentiment.

Officials anticipate opening formal public discussions for comment on the proposed regulations in June or July. The county has also reportedly reached out to Beltline, identified as a potential data center suitor, for insight into their intentions.
