Killeen council, P&Z to hold joint meeting on data centers, short-term rentals
Killeen’s City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a joint meeting to discuss possible amendments to zoning ordinances governing data centers. Council members previously directed staff to draft an ordinance requiring data centers to obtain conditional-use permits tied to standards for water and electricity usage.
Killeen’s City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission are scheduled to meet jointly to discuss policy priorities, communication and potential zoning ordinance amendments involving data centers and short-term rentals. The meeting will be held at the Utility Collections Conference Room on West Avenue C, though the agenda does not specify the details of the data center discussion.
At a previous council meeting, council members directed city staff to draft an ordinance requiring data centers to obtain conditional-use permits. The proposed approach could allow permits to be revoked if facilities fail to meet standards related to water consumption, electricity use and other concerns. The meeting also reflects ongoing coordination issues between the council and the Planning and Zoning Commission, whose decisions have sometimes been overturned by the council.
