Oregon governor gives Legislature a 60-day deadline to pass data center reforms
Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek said she will ask the Legislature to pass data center oversight and standards within the first 60 days of its next session. The proposed statewide requirements would address energy and water use, transparency, power sourcing and commitments to local communities.
Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek said she plans to introduce data center legislation at the beginning of the legislative session and urged lawmakers to approve it within 60 days. She said a statewide framework is needed to provide clarity for communities and projects already under development.
The proposed standards would cover energy consumption, water use, transparency about how facilities obtain power, and commitments to the communities where data centers are built and operated. Kotek said acting early in the session would allow Oregon to establish expectations for the industry before the session concludes.
