The City of East Peoria is taking steps to acquire 270 acres of farmland located between U.S. Route 24 and Centennial Drive, at the city's northwestern boundary. The East Peoria City Council is expected to approve the purchase, for which the city won the bid at approximately $5.2 million last month.

According to Mayor John Kahl, while the city views this plot as a prime site for future development and one of the few remaining "available growth corridors," it will not allow the construction of data centers or solar projects on the property. The city believes controlling the future development of this land is in its best interest.
