Google has announced plans to develop a new data center in LaGrange, Georgia, marking its second such facility in the state. The complex, located at 411 Pegasus Parkway, is already under construction and will support Google's digital services. LaGrange City Manager Patrick Bowie welcomed the development, noting it fills an economic gap left by the 2024 closure of Jindal Films Americas LCC, previously the city's largest electric customer. Google plans to invest in local infrastructure improvements, including a $1 million contribution to Groundswell’s SOUL program, which aims to provide power safety and efficiency upgrades for at least 50 LaGrange families. Additionally, the company is addressing environmental impacts by covering the full cost of the site’s power and infrastructure, and partnering with the Trust for Public Land to remove invasive water-consuming plants from the Chattahoochee River. Jen Ryan, Google’s regional head of data center public affairs, emphasized the company's commitment to being a "good neighbor" and investing in local priorities. Despite the positive outlook, the construction has faced incidents, including a severe injury to a worker in early April, requiring a regional trauma center transfer.
